The Annual General Assembly (AGA) and Conference of the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) took place from 18 to 21 October 2023 in Helsinki, Finland. National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” (NUOMA) was represented at these events by the rector, professor Mykhaylo Miyusov and senior lecturer of the Ship Handling Department Dmytro Zhukov.

The IAMU Annual General Assembly is a forum for information exchange, policy approval, and the development and strengthening of good relations and cooperation between IAMU member universities. During the opening ceremony of the IAMU AGA, the leaders of the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences, the leaders of the maritime and educational industries of Finland, a representative of the Nippon Foundation, ex-executive director of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) Markku Mylly, the Chair of IAMU – the president of the Gdynia Maritime University Professor Adam Weintrit and the Executive Director of IAMU Professor Takeshi Nakazawa have speeches.

The next item on the agenda was the Presidents’ Forum – a meeting where the leaders of IAMU member universities discussed current issues of IAMU policy and activity, taking into account academic relations between member universities, as well as economic and technological innovations in international maritime shipping. During the President’ Forum, the NUOMA rector, professor Mykhaylo Miyusov, made a speech.

At the plenary sessions of the Annual Assembly, the issues of approving the reports of the executive committee and subcommittees of the IAMU were considered, the winners of the research project competition were determined, the experts of the IAMU were awarded, and the representatives of the IAMU were appointed to participate in the IMO events. Among the IAMU experts, Oleksandr Volkov, an associate professor of the Department of Navigation at the NUOMA, was awarded. IAMU will be represented at the 108th meeting of the IMO Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 108) by Dmytro Zhukov, a senior lecturer of the Ship Handling Department of NUOMA.

The hosting university of the next IAMU AGA was selected. The IAMU AGA 2024 will be host by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy, USA, and IAMU AGA 2025 will be host by AMET University, Chennai, India.

At the IAMU Conference, scientists and lecturers of IAMU member universities had the opportunity to present the results of their academic/scientific research to the IAMU community. The IAMU conference was organized by the local executive committee and the International Program Committee of the IAMU. More than 50 reports were heard during the IAMU Conference. Along with the IAMU Annual Assembly and Conference, the IAMU Student Program took place.

All expenses of representatives of NUOMA and other educational institutions of Ukraine for participation in the activities of the Annual Assembly and conference of IAMU were carried out at the expense of IAMU and the Satakunta University of Applied Sciences.
