Educational and Scientific Institute of Automation and Electrical Engineering

At the Educational and Scientific Institute of Automation and Electrical Mechanics of National University “Odessa Maritime Academy”, the training of students of higher education is provided in full-time and part-time forms of the first (Bachelor), second (Master) and third (PhD) levels according to the educational programs “Automated management of ship power plants” under the specialty 151 “Automation and computer-integrated technologies” and “Operation of ship electrical equipment and means of automation” under the specialty 271 “River and sea transport”. The institute employs more than 70 scientific-pedagogical and pedagogical workers, most of whom are Candidates and Doctors of Sciences, Associate professors and Professors, and what is more important, some of them continue to practice as ship engineers (engineers and electrical engineers), combining work in the fleet with training of students.

Currently, the Institute unites 7 departments in its structure: 3 departments of mathematical and natural science training (these are the departments of higher mathematics, physics and chemistry, theory of automatic control and computer technology) and 4 departments of professional and practical training (these are the departments of electrical engineering and electronics, automation of ship power plants, electrical equipment and automation of ships and the department of marine radio communication). The training of students at these departments is carried out using the most modern technologies, simulators, equipment and methodological tools.

In 2010 and 2018, the engineering specialties of National University “Odessa Maritime Academy”, which are, by the way, the only ones in Ukraine, were accredited by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, Great Britain (IMarEST). IMarEST is licensed to accredit academic programs and professional development ‘schemes’ by the Engineering Council of the United Kingdom.

The Engineering Council operates under the Royal Charter and is the regulator of the engineering professions in the United Kingdom, setting and maintaining internationally recognized standards of professional competence. Moreover, the specialties were inspected by the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), which is a decentralized agency of the European Union that ensures the control of the implementation of European legislation in the field of maritime safety. Three of these specialties are the specialties for which students are trained at the Educational and Scientific Institute of Automation and Electrical Mechanics. This testifies to the high level of training of the students and the recognition of the qualifications of the employees of National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” in the field of maritime education.
