National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” held a joint meeting of Ukrainian Maritime Bar Association and Association of Maritime Law of Ukraine on “Participation in the international organizations: the practice and benefits” within the Week of Maritime Law organized by Coordination Council of young lawyers at the Main territorial Department of Justice in Odessa region, Association of Maritime Law of Ukraine on November 1, 2016.

The aim of the event was to discuss the opportunities for members of international organizations and their interaction with national non-governmental organizations, interested persons and issues of experience application gained in the Ukraine.

The event was attended by A.N. Shemyakin, Doctor of Law, Professor, Vice-Rector of NU “OMA”; A.E. Costin, lawyer, Deputy Head of NAAU in Odessa region, A.I. Kutsyn, Partner of law office “Pravo”; Head of Port Supervision Service of Maritime Safety of SE “AMPU”; E.S.Sukachev, lawyer and senior partner of law firm Black Sea Law Company; W. Konohray, attorney of the law firm Lexcellence; M.V. Slyusarevskyy, President of the Federation of Maritime Trade Unions; the representatives of courts of general jurisdiction and economic courts, maritime educational establishments, environmental inspection and others.

At the meeting members discussed the participation of Ukraine in the work of IMO, the prospects for establishment of an international register of ships in Ukraine; Port State control over observance of the seafarers rights and cooperation with trade unions.
