National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” held a meeting with representatives of “Columbia Shipmanagement Ukraine” to improve the cadet program and further cooperation in the field of training marine engineers of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Marine Engineering.

At the meeting held in December, organized by the Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Marine Engineering on the initiative of the management of Columbia Shipmanagement Ukraine, the following representatives delivered their speeches: Maslov S.K., General Director of Columbia Shipmanagement Ukraine; Grigoriy Mashkevich, Exsecutive Director; Pavlo Iordatii, training officer; Anna Sokolova, Head of crewing department; Iryna Barbinyagra, Coordinator of cadets program.

Key topics for discussion included the prospects for the relationship between NU “OMA” cadets and the Columbia company in terms of reach and competence for high-quality professional work on modern and promising ships. Cadets of the 2nd and 3rd courses are offered the benefits of cooperation aimed at increasing professional training, sustainable development and career promotion, maintaining the health of cadets and their mental health, well-being from the expected life at sea and ensuring its safety, social support.

The two-day meeting provided an opportunity for Columbia representatives to communicate with perspective officers and find out their current educational and practical level, suggesting the best for consideration and approval in the cadet program by Columbia’s global crewing department.

According to the results of tests and interviews, the Columbia company approved 95% of the cadets from the declared ones and included them in the long-term operational plan for boarding ships with the announced dates, agreed with the schedule of the educational process of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Marine Engineering of National University “Odessa Maritime Academy”.
