On 30th of March 2023, the workshop supporting maritime students of Ukraine was organised and hosted by the Lithuanian Maritime Academy and supported by EU Strategy of the Baltic Sea Region Policy Area Safe (“PA Safe”). Mr. Markku Mylly (former EMSA Director General) was the Chairman of this workshop.
The main purpose of this Workshop was to discuss and coordinate actions to support maritime students of Ukraine, to complete their studies and training with the assistance of individual EU Baltic Sea member states and their maritime educational institutions.
The following questions were also considered:
- How to respond the needs of maritime training in Ukraine (Odessa and Kherson)?
- What type of support may other European maritime institutions provide? (e.g. specialties, online classes, video presentations, simulator training excursions?)
- Ukrainian students’ needs?
The Workshop was attended online by the representatives of National University “Odessa Maritime Academy”; Kherson State Maritime Academy; Lithuanian Maritime Academy (Lithuania); Ukrainian students and other supporting European maritime educational institutions.
Marina Chesnokova, PhD, Head of International Cooperation Department, made presentations on the current situation in the National University “Odessa Maritime Academy”.
