On 6th September, 2021 M.V. Miyusov, rector of the NU “OMA” supported an important initiative to address the piracy situation in Gulf of Guinea, by signing the Gulf of Guinea Declaration. This Declaration has been initiated by the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) and has already been supported by the biggest shipping companies and organisations. It already has more than 400 signatories. The Declaration is aimed to raise awareness of the Gulf of Guinea piracy problem. The authors of the Declaration hope that it will stimulate governments to take the necessary actions, emphasising the need for short-term as well as longer-term responses. To the shipping industry’s policy makers, the declaration will provide strong leverage when discussing piracy in Gulf of Guinea.
