The solemn ceremony of cadets’ initiation that is one of the most memorable events of cadets’ life took place in National University «Odessa Maritime Academy» on September 20, 2019. Traditionally, the initiation ceremony is a solemn oath, during which the first-­year cadets promise to respect the regulations of the University and proudly bear the title of cadets. This year was no exception. Young cadets passed the celebratory column before the walls of the favourite Alma Mater.

Welcoming remarks were made by M.V. Miyusov, Prof., the Rector of NU «OMA»; O.L. Neizhpapa, the 1st Deputy Commander of the Navy of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Rear Admiral; O.S. Revyakin, Head of State Service for Maritime and River Transport of Ukraine; O.M. Moskalenko, the 1st Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Black Sea Shipping Company; Capt. Yakimov Adrian, Managing Director of Stargate Maritime Company.

On the occasion of NU «ОМА» holiday, the representatives of K–Line Ro–Ro and Bulk Ship Management, Stargate Shipmanagement GmbH and Stargate Maritime Ltd arrived at the University to meet with the Rector, get acquainted with the Academy’s facilities and training simulators as well as participate in the solemn ceremony of cadets’ initiation and the opening of a new high-voltage installation established with the financial support of K-Line and Stargate companies. The new NT Pro 5000 navigation simulator manufactured by Wartsila was also presented. It was installed in June 2019 and funded by MSC company.

Sincere congratulations and wishes for success and prosperity were heard from the guests. Academic staff, parents, relatives and friends supported young cadets on their way to the highest achievements in education. Furthermore, the solemn concert was orginised by Cultural Centre of NU «OMA», where cadets and the university’s staff performed on the stage.

Within a few years, the first-­year cadets will be highly qualified and experienced specialists in their professional field with varied and rewarding career and promotion opportunities and good long-term prospects.
