The 26th International Maritime Lecturers Association Conference took place in «Sheraton Batumi Hotel» in Batumi (Georgia) from 22 till 26 September, 2019.  The conference was organized by the Batumi State Maritime Academy (Georgia).

«Modern Challenges in Maritime Education and Training» was the main topic of the conference.The following issues were discussed during the conference:

  • Development and Implementation of Distance learning in MET;

  • LLL (lifelong learning) & CE (continuous education);

  • Simulator training based on learning in MET;

  • Problems of attractiveness of Maritime Education and Profession;

  • Collaboration between “Academia” and “Industry” for development of relevant skills;

  • Curricula Internationalization and Harmonization;

  • IT Technologies in MET;

  • Development of New Technologies in Maritime Industry and its Implementation in Educational process;

  • Maritime Training and Certification Challenges;

  • Other Contemporary MET issues.

Sergey Karianskyi, Associate Professor, Dean of Automation Faculty, member of Sub-Committee IMLA; Marina Chesnokova, Associate Professor, Head of International Cooperation Department and  Olga Monastyrskaya, Associate Professor, Head of English Department represented National University «Odessa Maritime Academy».

The conference gathered 57 delegates from 21 countries, including 17 educational institution. Over 49 papers and presentations were made.

During the conference, a visit to Batumi State Maritime Academy (BSMA) was made to meet with the BSMA leadership. During the meeting Honorary Secretary of the Odessa Branch of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) in Ukraine, Sergey Karyanskyi conducted a presentation of the activities of the Odessa Branch, which is located at the premises of NU «OMA» and discussed the issues of cooperation between the BSMA and the Odessa Branch.
