On October 23, 2019 the opening of a new laboratory facility «Small Research Basin» took place at Ship’s Theory and Arrangement Department of National University «Odessa Maritime Academy» to be used as a simulator of buoyancy, stability, unsinkability and free onboard vibrations of a vessel in still waters by the cadetss of Navigation, Marine Engineeering and Maritime Transportation and Technologies Faculties.

The new installation was introduced by I.P. Davydov, Head of Ship’s Theory and Arrangement Department, Аssociate Professor, Candidate of Engineering Sciences. Small research basinl manufactured by the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding in Mykolaiv has a patent No. 132596. V.O. Nekrasov, Honored Scientist of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Head of Ship’s Theory and Design Department, O.V. Bondarenko, Director of the Admiral Makarov National University of Shipbuilding, Ph.D., Assocciate Professor and O.P. Yastreb, Head of the laboratory of Ship’s Theory and Design Department are the inventors of the installation.

A small research basin allows the following studying:

-the effect of goods acceptance and movement on average draft, roll angles, trim and stability;

-the effect of free surfaces of liquids and suspended loads on stability;

-experimental construction of diagrams of static stability;

-studies of the effect of bilge keels on the rolling amplitude;

-the effect of holes on emergency buoyancy and stability;

-experimental determination of metacentric height.

The installation is a personal gift to NU «ОМА» on behalf of B.N. Stankova, General Director of «Digital Marine Technology» LLC.
