Img 1737On October 5, 2018 a celebration was held on the occasion of the cadets’ initiation. The cadets traditionally walked along a festive procession in a large column from its educational institution to the ‘Walk of Fame’ at Shevchenko Park.
Future sailors vowed to respect the dignity and proud title of a sailor of Ukraine.
Alexander Saburov, Head of Maritime College named after O.I. Marinesko of NU “OMA” wished success to the first-year cadets and noted that all the ways were open. The importance of learning and abiding by the words of the oath was mentioned too.
This year, one of the oldest educational institutions of Ukraine – Maritime College named after O.I. Marinesko of NU “OMA” celebrates its 120th anniversary. On July 1, 1898, exactly 120 years ago in Odessa, classes of merchant shipping were open under the Commercial College in order to provide theoretical and practical training for young people who are trained to fulfill the duties of captains and their assistants on commercial deep-sea vessels.
Thus, a new maritime educational institution was opened in Odessa. On July 7, 1901 the classes of merchant shipping were transformed into the Odessa Сollege of Merchant Shipping.
