A joint meeting of the Naval Forces of Ukraine and the Oceanography and Marine Environment Engineering Section of the Interagency Coordinating Council for Marine Research of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine took place at National University “Odessa Maritime Academy” on January 16, 2020. The main topic of the meeting was “Lighting of the hydrographic state in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas using oceanographic data in the interests of navigation and hydrographic support of the Ukrainian Navy: state and prospects”.

The meeting was attended by the following participants: specialized scientists and specialists of the Central Scientific Research Institute of Arms and Military Equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; authorized representatives of the Ukrainian Navy, Navigation Center of NU «ОМА», hydrography and hydrometeorology of the Ukrainian Navy, Odessa State Ecological University, State institution “State Hydrography” of the State Service of Sea and River Transport of Ukraine, National Aerospace University named after. M.E. Zhukovsky “Kharkiv Aviation Institute”, Ukrainian Language and Information Fund of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Institute of Cybernetics named after V.M. Glushkova National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, State Institution “Scientific Hydrophysical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”, National Center “Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”.

The co-chairs of the joint council were the following: I.O. Voronchenko, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Admiral; O.A. Schyptsov, Deputy Chairman of the Interagency Coordinating Council for Marine Research of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, corresponding member of NAS of Ukraine. Introductory remarks were made by: M.V. Miyusov, Rector of NU “OMA”, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof.; I.O. Voronchenko, Admiral, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy.

The event included a demonstration of the information-analytical system for supporting the processes of equipping and developing weapons and military equipment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (IAS “Prism”), created on the basis of the services of the cognitive IT technology “Polyhedron”. The following issues of the hydrographic state in the waters of the Black and Azov Seas using oceanographic data in the interests of navigational and hydrographic support for the Ukrainian Navy were highlighted: the state and prospects, as well as the creation of a distributed information and analytical system for organizing the processes of collecting, storing, processing and using digital oceanographic and hydrometeorological data in order to increase the reliability and efficiency of navigational and hydrographic support for the activities of the naval forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In conclusion, the issues of training and retraining of military hydrographs were considered and the results were summed up.
