
Dear IAMU AGA8 Delegates,
It is a great honor for all of us to held the one of the most event in World
MET – the 8th Annual General Assembly of the International Association Maritime
Universities. Last twelve months our Local Executive Committee tried to do all
necessary to make the IAMU AGA8 bright and remarkable event in World MET. The
full Speakers’ Program available on our website.
About 120 delegates and students from IAMU members’ institutions have
registered on AGA8.
We have invited to the AGA8 Opening Ceremony Ministry of the Educational and
Science of Ukraine and Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Transport and Communications
of Ukraine. Odesa region will be presented at opening Ceremony by Governor of
the Odesa Region, Head of the Odesa Regional Council and the Odesa Mayor. Participants
from world leading Shipping companies and maritime educational establishments
also confirmed their participation in AGA8.
IAMU Students Program will be held on board our sailing training ship "DRUZHBA".
We will try to create one small international crew out of our IAMU students. The
words "One Earth – one Crew» will be the motto of the IAMU Students
program. Students’ program available on the website.
The time schedule of the AGA8 is very tight but we’ve prepared interesting
evening program for delegates and students.
During Spouses’ program your spouses will have opportunity to visit
beautiful and interesting historic places of the Odesa region.
We would like to inform all of you again that LEC have arranged the hotel reservation
for all delegates in four hotels in the historical centre of Odesa city. We will
organize the transfer from Odesa Airport to Hotels. Once again we kindly ask those
haven’t yet sent correct flights details, please, do it as soon as possible
for proper Hotel Booking and Airport transfer.

International Executive Board meeting held in Odesa, Ukraine
The 1st IEB meeting of this year was held at Odesa National Maritime Academy
for the period of 31st May-2nd June, 2007.(Agenda and main topic are listed in
the Members' Only page).
From 24th May till 26th May 2007, Secretary General of
International Maritime Organization (IMO) of
the United Nations Organization Mr. Ethimious Mitropoulos visited Ukraine.
The main aim of his visit was familiarization with development of marine industry
in our country. Mr. Ethimious Mitropoulus officially visited Odesa on the 25th
May 2007.
In the same day at Odesa National Maritime Academy there was meeting with staff
of academy during which Secretary General of IMO Mr. Ethimious Mitropoulos was
conferred the degree of Honorary Doctor of Science of Odesa National Maritime
Academy. Than teaching staff, cadets of academy and representatives of marine
community of Ukraine were present at the lecture of Mr. Ethimious Mitropoulus,
name of which was: "International Maritime Organization: modern state and
aspects of development". At the end of official meeting there was conference
of Secretary General of IMO with representatives of mass media.

Here with we inform you that according mutual agreement between LEC and IAMU
Secretariat it was decided to extend the deadline period for submission Abstracts
till the 16th of April 2007.

From February 21 till February 24 2007 Ms Shoko Yoshihara,
Assistant Secretary of IAMU, made a working visit to Ukraine.
On February 21, immediately after arrival to Kiev, Shoko Yoshihara visited
Kiev State Academy of Water Transport. After leaving for Odessa on February 22
Shoko Yoshihara visited ONMA, where she met with the Rector, Professor Miyusov.
In the course of the meeting they discussed the matters of preparation for the
8th General Assembly. Shoko Yoshihara was shown to the premises of the Academy,
where the Assembly’s activities will take place, the main chamber, the hall of
the Academic Council, auditoriums, which are specially equipped for sittings of
plenary sessions. Shoko Yoshihara was pleased with the course of preparations
for the Assembly at ONMA. After lunch she visited Odessa State Maritime University
with the aim of analyzing the matter of its membership in the Association. During
the visit a long and fruitful conversation with the Rector of OSMU, Professor
Morozova, and the representatives of the administration took place.
The next day was devoted to discussion the matters of preparation and holding
the Assembly at ONMA in September.
Despite the short duration of the visit, hard weather conditions, one-day flights
cancellations because of heavy snow, Shoko Yoshihara retained the warmest reminiscences
about our Academy and our city.
